Melvin Colón, PT, DPT received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Long Island University in 2012. He studied under senior physical therapists with various specialties during his three years of graduate school. Melvin performed clinical rotations at Lutheran Augustana Hospital, Roosevelt Hospital, Masefield & Cavallaro Physical Therapy and Mount Sinai Sports Physical Therapy allowing him to work with patients of various diagnoses and conditions. While completing his Doctorate in Physical Therapy, Melvin has taken advanced courses in orthopedic physical therapy, alternative medicines and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF). This advanced education has enhanced Melvin's skill and knowledge base allowing him to better incorporate and understand alternative therapies in commonly used in conjunction with physical therapy.
Melvin utilizes a systematic approach to problem solve through difficult cases and develop individualized treatment plans. He believes strongly in treating each patient as a whole person and more than the sum of their injuries. He spends tremendous time and energy educating the patient about their diagnosis, prognosis and all of their available treatment options. Melvin utilizes manual therapies including soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release and joint mobilizations in conjunction with therapeutic exercise, functional training and sports specific exercise programs allowing him to work with people of all levels and abilities. Melvin is available for consultation Monday through Friday.
